Community Companions - East Cheshire Hospice

Community Companions

Our companions deliver companionship and support to people in the early stages of dementia as well as giving their carers a few hours break. We’re looking for volunteers aged over 18 who enjoy the company of others; can have enjoy a laugh as well as being caring and compassionate. You don’t need to have had any previous experience of working with people with dementia but a willingness to learn is essential. You will be matched up with a person of similar interests for a couple of hours per week or per fortnight, to visit during the daytime Monday – Friday. No personal care is involved, and full support will be given to you throughout training and volunteering, so you can concentrate on enjoying making a real difference to the life of the person and their carer. This is a long term commitment – we’d like you to visit the person you’re matched with for a minimum of 1 year, and whilst this service is not currently running, we do expect it to resume in Summer 2021 so please do complete an application form and we’ll be in touch. For more info, please email volunteers@echospice.org.uk.
