Circus Skills

One of the best ways to raise sponsorship for charity is to utilise skills that you already have and share them with others. People are always eager to learn and develop so if they can donate to the East Cheshire Hospice at the same time, this is positive all round!

If you have a unique skill, whether that’s aerobatics, juggling, stilts or even fire breathing, that you could teach online in exchange for donations towards the hospice.

How do I get started?

Break A World Record!

To become a record-holder requires determination, extraordinary skills and commitment. Have you got a record in mind you would like to attempt? Or do you have a unique idea never thought of before?

Here’s how to take those next steps to breaking a world record and raise those vital funds for East Cheshire Hospice…

  1. Explore the world records database thoroughly – Check the What makes a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS record title page and familiarise yourself with our record-breaking criteria and policies.

  1. Choose a world record to attempt – Maybe you already have a world record in mind you want to attempt, or you can suggest a new idea.

  1. Apply and wait to receive the guidelines. – If your suggestion is not accepted, we will still reply and explain why. This can take up to 12 weeks or more if there is higher demand than usual.

  1. Understand the requirements and evidence needed for the attempt – You will have access to a very important document called GUIDE TO YOUR EVIDENCE, which will explain in detail how to get your world record attempt verified. Many attempts are rejected because the rules have not been followed correctly.

  1. Practice, practice, practice…

  1. Raise those vital funds for the East Cheshire Hospice – whilst practising you world record attempt, set up your fundraising page* and have your supporters donate to such a worth cause and such a huge challenge!

  1. Carry out your official world record attempt – Decide on a date, time and location for the record attempt, making sure you have the logistics planned out and the necessary equipment available.

  1. Submit your evidence, cover letter and all other required documents – More than 50% of submissions are rejected because the evidence is insufficient. Once you are confident with the submission, upload your evidence online and await the result.

  1. The moment of truth! – If you are successful, congratulations – you will receive an official Guinness World Records certificate (further certificates and merchandise can be purchased in the GWR Store). If not, do not give up, you can apply again or pick a different record to attempt.

Make sure to fill in the details about your world record attempt, set yourself a fundraising target, share your page with friends and family on social media, email, WhatsApp, text… And away you go!

London Marathon World Records

Guinness world Record partner with Virgin Money London Marathon each year to see what ideas people come up with and attempt to break on the day of the marathon. At the 2019 event there were 40 new Guinness World Records titles achieved from 79 attempts, ranging from the fastest marathon dressed in a tent to the fastest marathon with two runners handcuffed together!

Read the 2019 news article online here for inspiration.

Taking on this challenge and raising sponsorship for East Cheshire Hospice really will make a difference to local people and their families who are cared for here. The Hospice has to raise over 80% of its running costs from voluntary donation and fundraising, this equates to over £7,500 every single day. Your contribution really will make a difference.

Body Wax

Here’s one for the men!

Feeling brave? Why not take on a full body wax to raise those vital funds for the east Cheshire Hospice!

Gather the bravest men you know, as many as possible to get involved in having a chosen body part wax in exchange for cash donations. I think most men would rather run a marathon or sky dive than have their body waxed so when they do participate in something like this, it gets people sponsoring and interested.

How do I get started?

Start by setting up your Just Giving page here and follow the simple step-by-step process to creating your fundraising page. Make sure to fill in the details about your waxing challenge, set yourself a fundraising target, share your page with friends and family on social media, email, WhatsApp, text… And away you go!

Battle of the Bands

Raise funds and melt faces!

Does a battle of the bands type event sound like music to your ears? Forget that same old, same old talent show. A battle of the bands fundraiser is great way to raise money for charity, give your fundraising cause a cool reputation and have a really good time. The competition element adds even more excitement and passion to the mix!

Raise money by charging an entry fee, selling merchandise and food. You could also get some collection tins from the Hospice and hold a raffle! Another option is to also ask bands to pay a nominal registration fee to perform, but this may depend on what kind of acts you want to get involved and how well you might know them. Don’t forget to ask the performers to say a little bit about the charity they are supporting before they start their set!

How do I get started?

There’s some great ideas and advice here to plan a successful battle of the bands event, but this is something that you can really make your own! It could be a royal rock rampage, or maybe a veritable variety show! If you know some musicians and people in bands at your school, that’s a great place to start by getting them on board. Then you just need a venue, some equipment and lots of promotion!

Arm Wrestling Competition

Test your ultimate strength and skill by challenging friends and family to an arm-wrestling match! Gather a large group that would like to take part in the competition, this could be in someone’s home or even at your local park.

All you will need is:

  • Table
  • Two chairs
  • Sponge pad or something soft to rest your elbows on

The rules are simple; two players go head to head, putting their best arm forward in the battle of strength. Lock hands keeping elbows on the table and the weight centred for a fair fight.

3… 2… 1… GO!

The first person to pin their opponents’ hand to the table is the winner. Keep this competition going with different opponents taking each other on to find your ultimate arm-wrestling champion.

Keep the fun in fundraising by playing fairly and safely! For every new player that sits down at the table, he or she donates £1 into a pot on the table. At the end of the competition the winner will be awarded a prize and the East Cheshire Hospice will receive those vital funds needed to care for our community.
